| New bong Ok, so I've decided I want to build a water bong for my new PC, and am doing some prelim planning, I don't just want the ugly white pipe thing going on though, so here's what I'm sort of borrowing from, concept wise: http://www.ku74.net/uberbong/
Except I'm probably going to switch to a Dramm 400 series head instead of the 1000 series head (supports higher flow, and its all aluminum instead of part plastic, the mistheads look nice, but I'm not sure how to get 6-7 of them stuffed into that pipe, and dont want to mess with cutting into the sides of the pipe and re-sealing it)
I'm also wanting to add a biowheel filter: http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...psr=1#prodTab1
and TFC RO filter: http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...psr=1#prodTab1
so that I can use tapwater and not worry about funky things growing in this system, and I already know how to integrate that stuff into the system, pump-wise I'm looking at the high flow Eheim stuff (~800-1000 GPH) and possibly a secondary of roughly half that size
Now, thinking about that clear tube, and seeing UV reactive dye, I think you get where i'm going with this, but my question is, will it be toxic if I put UV dye into the system? I know most dyes are rated non-toxic, but is that both in liquid and gaseous? or just liquid state?
and, any concepts as to how to vent such a system outdoors? something similar to a fume hood? |

| Re: New bong wow. How are your temps?
They say that it works best in low humidity so in the summer, that's pretty much a don't do.
I wouldn't add the UV dye. Because the water evaporates, it would cost a lot to refill, plus i don't like the idea of having UV dye blowing around the air.
You could probably design it so that somehow, the water vapor is re-directed into the bong so that you don't lose as much water. |

| Re: New bong A bong is known as nuclear cooling. It's a very efficient way of removing heat from water. In human terms, it's known as sweating |

| Re: New bong yeah so that's a lot better looking than the little PVC guys, isn't it? LOL
seriously, it's a neat project and all, but as duke said, you can't use it all year. On top of that, I'd bet that it's gonna be mad loud. Once more, how much is all of that gonna cost you?
I'd price everything out, and then see what kind of "Air" or "Water" standard cooling I could get for the same price. |

| Re: New bong I've not researched it much, but the idea that I get from the images is that the heat-bearing water is dispersed in a semi-fine mist into an chamber being constantly filled with ambient temperature air, removing heat from it very quickly.. I think. Either way it looks amazing, but it also looks expensive for the cooling you'd get (just like air and normal water, it'd never go below ambient unless that intercooler was in packed ice/dry ice/submerged in LN2. |

| Re: New bong uh you get ambient or sub ambient, and its cheaper than WC except for water costs, which is why iw ant the TFC so i can use tapwater instead of buying distilled
also, i live in CO, average humidty: 30%, meaning the summer is dryer than winter, so i can run it 24/7 365 and have no issues, esp with AC
and at that size, it'll go below ambient because of how much dissipation it'll get, but i was thinking the UV dye would probably be bad, just wanted to check |

| Re: New bong LAWL I thought you meant like FOR MARIJUANA...
christ... this is in the Xtreme Cooling section idiots.
This does sounds pretty cool though. As for the evaporation I wouldnt think it would be that big of a deal, no? I would think it would need as much maintainence as cleaning dust out of your fans does. |

| Re: New bong could always exchange the heat using 2 loops. thats how they do it the nuclear power plants i think, and for solar i know. have 2 loops, one to get heat off your cpu and w/e and to dump heat into the second loop that runs through the cooler. just take a ****ty radiator and submerge it in a giant reservoir that the second loop runs through. the good water will stay in a closed loop system so you wont have to worry about the evaporation, and the secondary loop will be able to be refilled easily. |

| Re: New bong i sorta wanted to try something like that with a chiller a wihle ago, derived from a window AC, hook the evap up to the CPU to get sub-zero temps on a liquid loop,a nd put the condensor into a tub submerged and cool that with a bong, everything would run ambient or lower, and the evap would freeze like crazy due to the condensor being so cold |

| Re: New bong ambient or just below, it isn't really about the temps, its about the cooling CAPACITY, you can hook up tri-8800 Ultra's and dual 125W Athlon64 FX 74's with RAM cooling on your 16GB of DDR2 and HD pads on your Raptor X's, and chipset cooling (this is just a theoretical example) and bring everything to around ambient, assuming you build a big enough bong + use enough water |
