| Re: New bong Holy Crap. So, the bigger the bong, the better the hig.... I mean, the better the cooling capacity? That one should be cooling Nuclear Reactors or s/t like that |

| Re: New bong yes, larger size = larger cooling, and they DO cool nuclear reactors http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...zootalures.jpg
those monsters basically ARE cooling bongs, they're just oriented somewhat differently, and push A LOT more water than you could ever dream of pushing in residential |

| Re: New bong That's why they blow white smoke. What if you cooled your computer with that? I learn something new every day on these forums.
Thanks, XFN |

| Re: New bong uh, if you hooked your PC to that it'd have nearly unlimited capacity, but your temps wouldn't be like ultra low
the advantage to more cooling capacity is that your system can OC farther and maintain temps
the general reason people love super-cold stuff is that the thermal delta and cooling capacity afforded by super-cold is good enough for quick bench-style OC'ing
however, going with LN2 or phase-change can be a problem because of superconduction |

| Re: New bong I know, I read that the last time you posted. I have a question for you. On average, how much does a small (around the volume of 8 soda cans, or 96 oz, just in the bong itself, not the tubes) water cooling bong cost? |

| Re: New bong idk, volume isn't really how you price it, you go to home depot and find a piece of pipe, lol
as i recall, 6" diameter and ~5' long is like $18 (at least last i looked, which was ~2 years ago)
the pump can get more expensive, if you go cheap (or if your bong is small), like $40, if you go HARDKOR, like $200 (you need two pumps)
then you need conventional WC equipment, block, tubing, etc (only use water, distilled is best, consider w/e you put into the bong, you get to breathe)
you also need a shower head or mist head (Dramm heads are great, check your local garden store, or home depot, lol)
and of course something for the base resivoir, so idk, you could probably do it on the cheap for around $150, top end all out, probably around $500 |

| Re: New bong Kam, you can smoke out of anything.....
I'm trying to find some used WC components to make it. If not, Ill just WC with a regular setup, with an exception to the reservoir, which will be a bottle of........Bawls.......Wo0t. |

| Re: New bong dang man.. now that i have done some research on this, ive got to make one. what would work better. (its gonna be a freakin monster) a single dramm 400 in a single 5' 4" tube or a dramm fogg-it (2gpm model) per 6 5' 4" tube? the fogg-it makes a finer mist, so i would THINK that it would perform better, but i dont know... the pump i found is a 12 gpm pump with a high head so that shouldnt be a problem. |

| Re: New bong If you want a super uber crazy pump for cheap, there is one at a surplus store here in Orlando that I go to. Here it is..... http://skycraftsurplus.com/index.asp...OD&ProdID=1028 |

| Re: New bong The finer the mist, the more coolant you lose to evaporation. Bongs aren't very popular anymore due to the cost of maintenance. You get contaminants in your coolant which can eventually ruin your blocks and pump, and the coolant needs to be topped off regularly. |

| Re: New bong I was thinking, what if the cooler was sealed, but then, the heat couldn't escape. You seal it off and run it through an evaporator/condenser setup though, couldn't you? |

| Re: New bong my plan is a dual looped system. my plan is to use either 15 foot of 1/2" tubing or a triple section of 1/4" 15 foot copper tubing (the flexible refrigeration kind, thin walled), so the cpu loop (which already has a triple rad) stays separate from the bong loop (which will run tap water) ive got alot of small things that will lessen the maintance (the projected res holds about 25+ gallons) and for portability (hard to imagine though). now that pump is nowhere near what i was thinking, what i was planning on was http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...6970_7738_7738
should be able to take the heat. please note that this will probably double as a humidifier for the winter months, it gets so stinkin dry at my place during the winter.

| Re: New bong yeah tap water = lots of contaminants, consider that you're only going to get the H2O to evaporate, and a few other substances, like Cl or N found in the water, however heavy metals, metalloid additives, etc, stuff that can't vaporize at normal temperature/pressure will remain as a solid in the loop which = issue
tying an evap into a condensor is an issue because it uses more electricity at that point to run the cooling, than the total cooling capacity of the system, and using a dehumidifier as a cooler is better anyways (because you can get sub-zero temps)
so unless you're going to take the design as is, or do something unique with the humidity (like duct it out of the room, feed it into your A/C's returns to act as a house humdifier, etc) you've got an issue
as far as keeping the system clean, distilled water usually works best, and honestly I'd just set the base of the thing in a big-ish size tank, and put an active fishtank filter in there, you'd probably hardly ever replace the actual carbon filters, and it'd keep the water in good shape (potentially good enough to use tapwater, depending what kind of evaporation rate you had going) |

| Re: New bong yea, its going to replace the humidifier that i already have, the filters on it are dead and i cant find replacements. the mist heads should work better anyways. i also came up with a "clamshell" design instead of tubes using a pair of storage tubs, bottom one for pump housing and rez and the top for a water catch. think ofem stacked on top of eachother with the top upside down, then having the mist heads spray upward onto the top tub. id basically only have to get the pump, my fittings, the heat exchange tubing (its expensive), and my mist heads and ive got a cooler which can probably cool my entire room down and go sub-ambieant. ill post some sketchup pics later. the loop i have a hard time believing will clog from contaminants any time soon, being that the smallest tubing is 3/4" diameter (to the mist heads) |
