Default PROJECT OVERKILL, Updated Today!

I'm incorporating new Overkill 120mm Fan Grills by Mnpctech on a Lian Li PC7-plus mid tower case. I'll be using different methods to install the grills different ways. I describe these as the first ever "aluminum 3D fan grills" Theyre cnc machined from 1/2" thick 6061 aluminum. These grills will be available at Xoxide very soon!

The first grill I'll be installing is called the "Turbine" This design is evocative of a Turbine jet engine.

Other Overkill grill designs

Nautilus

Sniper

Tools & Supplies used in this work log
Measuring square.
Small Flat head screw driver.
Phillips screw driver.
120mm wire fan grill.
Center punch.
Paint Pen or Marker
Drill press (or Power Drill)
4.5" hole saw attachment.
2, Large C-clamps (if you're using Drill press)
2 x 4 block of wood.
Dremel with barrel sander attachment (or rounded side hand file)
Hand punch as shown here for making the screw mounting holes, or you can use a power drill.
Sheet Metal Tin Snips

Lian Li PC7-plus mid tower case

Using a Red paint pen to mark off the location of the opening for the fan grill.

Using a small flat screw driver to remove the adhesive backed case badge.

Using measuring square to find the exact center location before using the hole saw.

Using center punch to mark center for hole saw center bit.

Before cutting the hole in the bezel on the drill press, you should remove the "snap in" tab insert on the bottom of the bezel. It's held on with 2, screws.

If you're using a Drill press, you'll wanna prop the Li Li PC-7plus bezel on a piece of wood to prevent it from bending. 2 x 4 block of wood is perfect.

Notice that I've placed pieces of acrylic under the C-Clamp heads, so I don't scratch the bezel surface.

I always spray a bit of oil on the hole saw blade, like WD-40

I'll use barrel drum sender attachment on my Dremel to remove the material highlighted with Red paint pictured above.

I use a Roper Whitney hand punch to make my screw holes, but you can use power drill with 1/4 drill bit.

This step is optional if you're using the same case. I just prefer to remove the 2, beams in the front 120mm fan opening, it lends to a cleaner look.

I've installed a 120mm Yate Loon Blue Led Fan

I'm using 4x 8/32 socket head machine screws/nuts to attach the Turbine grill. Each Overkill grill includes 4x #10 x 5/8" self tapping screws

Stay Tuned, More Modding to come!

Awesome walk through Bill. You have a great ability to show the key points and make it all seem really easy to do.

The grills are amazing too, you can't get anything like these anywhere else! Two of these (Nautilus style) would look really cool modded onto the front of my Antec 300.

Looks great, Bill! If you get a minute, I'd love to see one of the black anodized nautilus or crosshair grills on that beautiful black Lian Li case =] Oh, and when we get the product pages set up for these, would you kindly post some of these pics up on the customer pics part of those pages? Or just email them over to me and I'll get them put up. Thanks!

What about making a backing plate for people like me who wouldnt want the holes showing up? I know its case dependent, but i think would look cool?

Hi furball, I can make one for you, just PM me. The grills can also be mounted on top of your case, or the side panel. I will see if we have another sample case here without the perforated panel.

Here is the Black Sniper grill installed
