Default Blue Fire

I currently have an unmodified Thermaltake Armor ATX Full Tower, black.

Nothing added, no mods, same stock paint and design.

The plan:

Cut a window out of the back side. Using modders mesh, create an expansion bay so I can install 4x120mm fans blowing directly onto the back of the motherboard.
Spray paint the interior with a high gloss navy blue coating
Spray paint the outside with silver hammered metal
Spray paint and and all drive bay covers with silver reflective metallic
Spray paint any and all devices in my drive bays with the same silver reflective metallic coating.
Add cathode tubes on the outside of the case, but within the fold out doors.
Position all the wires between the motherboard tray and rear panels.

I am going to cut out a section of my rear panel, form the modders mesh to fit around the fans, and screw them into the cutout.
So it will be internal, but at the same time external. I'll throw up some rendering designs and projected finish as I get closer to my start date. I'll be buying all the tools necessary next Friday.

what tools are you looking to buy? Like an entire modders kit or just the tools for these specific mods?

This will be my first mod, so I am just getting the tools for the right job. I am going to cut out the section and the screw holes at my job site. All paint and fan installation will be done at home.
I saw a few things at Home Depot that will come into use.
Other than that, basic spray painting and screw driving.

The process of painting has begun. I removed the bay doors, and the three drive bay covers that will not be in use after my parts come in.

I went to Home Depot, grabbed metallic blue, reflective metallic, and hammered metal spray paints. Also bought some electric tape for wire management, and painter tape just in case.

I removed the acrylic wall on the door (hard to see, but it's there). I also took apart the drive bay covers. As you can tell, the mesh filter works...

Three coats of each color applied to the parts seen below, and later on tonight I will paint the main door.

I need to get some fresh air. TS Hannah is in town, so I did all the paining in my room.

Painting in your room?!? I hope that you were wearing an organic compound breather! If not, you can screw up your lungs permanently or even give yourself brain damage by inhaling paint fumes!

Also, if the humidity is high from TS Hannah, you'll probably want to put off painting. Your finish will not look right (i.e., paint will not dry glossy as intended) if the humidity is too high. Check weather.dom for your immediate area if you don't have a personal weather station, and check the suggested humidity rating on the cans. If it's too high, put off painting. Otherwise, you won't be happy with the end results.

All of that advice aside, this sounds like a cool mod. I'll stay tuned...

Wish I had known about the humidity factor. 94%. As for my lungs, I smoke, so anything will be an improvement. I have my windows open though.

One part of my case was set enough to handle, and the rebuilding process has begun. The hammered silver looks nice. Not as shiuney as I expected, but still, a nice look.

Back panel got the hammered treatment, and soo I'll flip it and sprayt it with metallic blue.

The CD/DVD player is installed, back panel in place, and here's a look at it so far. Don't mind the black drive bay covers, those soon will be replaced with a card reader, HD reader, fan control, and audio card panel.

For my drive bay doors, I decided to paint the ridges blue, and the locks for my front door as well.

The painting for today has drawn to a close. Here is a look at my computer now

BEFORE:

AFTER:

I still plan on painting the back, top, and the inside, but that is a project for another day. Lighting does no justice.

Rattle cans are all about patience, a steady hand, and waiting for the humidity to be low enough. Combine those things, and you can get a stellar paint job using stuff you can buy at the auto parts store.

Well thank you for the tips, I will definately consider them for my next project, painting with a brush and keeping brushstrokes out of it is very difficult lol.
