Vertical lines on screen when playing videos?

sounds like vga chipset or some other part of the computer is dying and probably cant be fixed.

When the mobo went out on my ThinkPad, I had a similar problem. It didn't seem to happen during any specific tasks, and I didn't get the noise associated with yours, but I did get the funky vertical lines every once in a while. AFAIK, the VGA chipeset in most if not all laptops come built into the mobo. If the VGA goes, then you have to replace the entire thing.

still no solution.. I tested the memory on diff slots with diff sticks. no differense.

I heard a lot of video card issues after the upgrade to SP3.

The answer is contact the video card web site for the latest driver.
This works most of the time.

Sorry I think it was mentioned before I do have the latest drivers. And the latest BIOS.
Also did a DXDIAG and it was fine.

Hi ScottyB,

Try clean the RAM sticks with a rubber and install on different Ram slots or swap the RAM slot and also clean the VGA card(if not onboard) pin connection as well.

Used to see some pin connection cause the similar problem.

Not necessary same as yours but worth a try.

Hi Scott,

Can you play the online game by booting the PC to safe mode with networking?
Without VGA driver, maybe the game cannot load or start, please try.

If did use safe mode with networking, did you get the same screen?

If so, your onboard VGA card may be faulty.

Sounds to me like you've got a faulty VGA chipset, from the things you've tried.

I don't blame you for wanting to rule everything else out first (I know I would) but I would put money on it being the video chipset.

The timing with the upgrades may only be a coincidence.

Hopefully it's just an issue with the drivers, and your vendor will release an upgrade soon that will fix the problem.

New issues.

Issue now occurs at random if changing the name of a music file, in a regular folder on the desktop.

Letting the laptop sit and go to a blank screen as a screen saver, does NOT come off blank screen at all until I turn the power off.

Well.. I'm going to re-install xp pro and see how that goes. I want a new lap top so if that fixes it I might just sell it and get something else.
