this is so wrong it isn't even funny
anything that carries the ATI Radeon badge was designed for gaming from square one, and that has always been the case, ATI does produce a 2D application card called FireMV, which is targetted at business users (like day traders), nVidia's equivalent is Quadro NVS, both are good boards

as far as "graphics cards for photoshop", thats also wrong, because photoshop doesn't require 3D acceleration, its a 2D raster manipulator, and doesn't benefit from a graphics card, except that it needs to display, although you can use anything from a GeForce 2 to a GTX 280, and it won't change the quality of your photoshop work one lick

nVidia did have a little bit of a lead over ATi for one generation, when the HD 2900XT was released, the reality is, the HD 2900XT was just a fine card, it just used A LOT more energy than most people would've liked, so it got blackballed, kind of like the press GTX 260/280 are taking due to their monotlithic die sizes, but because they can bring some extra performance to the table, and they idle on nearly no power, they won't be entirely blackballed away

as far as drivers go, since the AMD purchase, the quality of drivers has gone up, greatly, and currently their multi-GPU drivers are superior to nVidia's, in terms of how well they handle multi-GPU, application support, etc (given that ATI was the original multi-GPU company, long before nVidia was even a flash in a pan, it doesn't surprise me)

you might wanna get your facts straight

no mate you got me all wrong ,i said most ati(amd) cards are built for apps like photoshop tho i didnt mean just photoshop as ive never used the program before i mean , if you are developing a game or some such **** that requires alot of gpu usage other than gaming
ati(amd) is the one to go for . well this is what the hundreds of customers that i have dealt with have said .

i have dealt with a few quadros before and ,im sorry but as good as the quadro fx or NVS is i would never recommend anyone either boards as the low end cards are a little ruff and the high end are way to expencive.

the quality of drivers has gone up
lol

im sorry dude but your wrong there ,tho i will agree that dual gpu drivers are much better as Nvidia suck balls at doing the whole sli thing
but realy i have yet to see a good ati(amd) card that is worth the money.
i may be a little old fashioned but ati (amd)suck
prove me wrong

You made the statement. the burden of proof is up to you imo.

Who cares. If this "war" allows someone to get a better video card for 150 bucks weather it's ati or nvidia then who cares whos on top at the present moment.

Also if any side actually "wins" and the other goes out of business the computer hardware market is definitely going to suck. When the 4850 came out it out preformed the 9800GTX which was priced at $100 more at the time. A week later the 9800GTX dropped to $200.

dude, you're wrong, and I gurantee it, because if you were building a GPU for 2D apps (which nobody has done since the 1990's), it wouldn't have more theoretical throughput than nVidia

and like nick says, if any side does win, it sucks for us

ALSO
its not old fashioned to hate ATI, you just want to backpeddle out because you've got no idea what you're talking about, ATI used to be considered "the best" between 2002-2004, because of Radeon 9000 series and Radeon X series, which would consistently beat nVidia up and down (ever heard of GeForce FX? you really wanna keep the arguement going?)

seriously
prove yourself right, because ATI cards aren't designed for "photoshop and similar apps", and they're more than worth the money
here's some proof:
http://www.guru3d.com/category/vga_2/

ok so lets look at the ATI cards you call photoshop accelerators (lol)

HD 4850, its around $150, and whips up on the:
8800GTX
9800GTX
8800GTS
8800GT
9600GT

all of which are in the $150-$200 price range

then look at the cards its competitive with, say 9800GTX+, which is $200, or GTX 260, which is $300

$150 seems like a steal, doesn't it?

i can go on, but i'm tired, and i don't see the need to beat this into the ground when I'm right

so don't come on here all, "i rule you", when you have no idea what you're talking about

ALSO
Radeon sucks for game dev, thats what Quadro FX is for, and you never suggest one to a gamer (which is what you're talking about doing), they aren't at all rough around the edges, if you've ever used a professional 3D app, Quadro FX is a GODSEND because of how much muscle it can bring to the table, especially when you're paycheck is contingent on getting a project done

I heard it's better to spend $30,000 ricing a Honda than buying a used Corvette. This is what Nguyen and his friends told me at my community college. I guess it depends who you're around.

Too many sites saying that it (and a few other games too) runs slower, unless of course they made new drivers since the review came out etc.

generally anything >5-7 days (depending on the board) is considered thread necromancy
