| Modders mesh substitute? Does anyone know the name of a good modders mesh substitute that I can buy at like home depot, lowes, etc? I really don't want to wait for shipping, let alone the fact that modders mesh is sold out. A few options would be awesome, it doesnt have to look exactly like modders mesh. |

| I haven't tried this yet(its a summer project), but at my local hardware store, they have various sizes of wire mesh. As big as 'chicken wire', down to...Well i don't know the size, but it should work(1 or 2mm?). It may not block all the dust, but it should get most of it. Plus, it only costs a couple bucks per square foot! Cut a couple squares out. Hot glue the sides to keep it form fraying. Then get some cheap and thin metal to wrap aroung the sides with a pair of pliers. Dril a couple holes, maybe spray paint it, and your done. You could also put acouple layers on top of each other(mis-aligned) to get a smaller effective hole between wires. |

| Re: Modders mesh substitute? I have actually found a pretty decent alternative, if your not completely bent on a aluminum finish.
I was shopping at wal-mart, getting some school supplies for my son and saw a mesh trash can that was made by rubbermaid. It has a very small diamond pattern and is black in color. I bought it, cut the rim and the base off of it.
It comes out to about 1 1/2 ft. x 2 1/2 ft. in size - all for 8 bucks. I have used it on my fans and as custom drive bay covers - even cut some out for my Ram air intakes on my streetbike. It allready has a glossy black coating to it, so no need for oiling - like mod mesh. |

| Re: Modders mesh substitute? I've done the same thing for black mesh...I used a paper organizer. It was about $9.99 and I was able to make the equivalent of about 4-5 sheets' worth of modder's mesh out of it. It's a different pattern, but looks pretty good. And, it ends up being a 1/5th of the price if you're willing to do a little work cutting it.
Wal-mart, Target, etc., all have inexpensive products like this in the office section that can be converted. I plan to do a tutorial on this soon. |

i used to sell a mesh taht was from the sections of an old satelite as seen here: http://www.zteck.com/alien/radiodish.gif
i still have a lot, but i stopped selling it because it was too much of a hassle to have to cut it. (using sheers to cut 12x12 pieces)
go find a neighbor with one of these and rip it apart. the sheets just pull right out if you take off the ends around the dish :) |

| Re: Modders mesh substitute? It doesn't have a huge amount of strength, but there's a variety of meshes for modeling that you can find at the big craft/art store chains. When shopping at Michael's with their weekly 40% off coupon I purchased a pack each of aluminum and copper mesh. I plan on painting the aluminum with some krylon x-metals and then clear coating that. :-) |

Consequently, I own a thermaltake armor with the mesh sides, and the two are undistinguishable from each other- thin, black, and wiry

| Re: Modders mesh substitute? Something too that you could also consider if you're looking to buy locally from a hardware store would be gutter screens. They make plastic ones that have a lot of round holes in them, or also metal mesh type ones. I actually used the metal mesh for a fan grill sort of thing for over front fans on the front of a case mod I did. Worked pretty damned well. And for $1 for a 6"x3' chunk, it's way cheap, but would only work for projects that fit within those dimensions. |

| Re: Modders mesh substitute? I haven't tried this YET , but i read it on another forum. Microwave doors have mesh panels inside them. The person who wrote the thread claimed he was able purchase 5 or 6 doors from a nearby salvage yard for a few bucks. I haven't got around to trying it myself but i definitely plan on looking into it further. |

| Re: Modders mesh substitute? Ha ha...well, obviously it's not, now. But, when someone revives an extremely old thread, it's always suspect of being a spambot doing some posting. So, we have to look and see if the person's sig suddenly starts showing up with links to knock-off perfumes or male enhancement drugs. You're clearly human, so you pass. Welcome to the forum, dude! And yes, head over to the intro thread and let everyone know who you are. It's always great to have fresh blood around here. Take some take and check out mods that are going on right now. |

| Re: Modders mesh substitute? Love the quote back, and as Grez said, you passed.
As for the microwave thing, well, I guess that could work. I suspect that most are a film of some sort, not actually a metal mesh. |
