Oh damn, I can't believe they cut to commercial. All day they have been showing uninterrupted sets, now they play something interesting and they cut. |

That's killer. Now, I admit that I've never been able to stand Billy Corgan's voice, I just think it's whinier that crap. But he's a musical genius, so I grant him some latitude. At least something edgy is going on there. Quote:

| Re: What are you currently listening to? I have never been a huge Pumpkins fan, though I have respect for their body of work.
They now have an open taping policy for their gigs. In fact, they just finished up a residency in Asheville where they extended it to include video recording. Totally different sets each night, some very trippy set lists. Most of them have been posted at Archive.org.
They start up an 8 show residency at the Fillmore in S.F. with the same policy soon.
Oh yeah, I just finished hearing Kayne West take a big steaming dump on an otherwise smoking Police set on Live Earth. Andy Summers is the most underrated guitar player in the world. And Stewart Copeland is a beast. |

| I've never, ever, for one second, liked Linkin Park. I call them the Beavis band for that blond retard that they have.
I actually like the new SOAD stuff. Don't get me wrong -- they've released a couple of tunes that went a lot further toward the mainstream, which has gotten them a lot more radio play -- but the album cuts still rock. Holy Mountains is a killer song, and unlike anything they've previously done. There's plenty of other material like that, too. The unedited, album cut of BYOB is great, too -- much more impact than the radio edit. Don't write them off...they've still got a ton more creativity coming out of them than other bands.
I know I will offend T-bag with this one, but Korn has always been hit or miss for me. They have some stuff I totally dig, but IMO a lot of filler, too. I'd love to see a completely killer producer like Brendan O'Brien take a swing at a Korn album and see what they can really do.
I have the first Godsmack album and haven't bought another one since. I honestly don't think they were ever very good. Almost every song sounds exactly the same...they have no depth whatsoever, and Sully has very little true vocal range. The best thing about that band is that their name is a tribute to Alice in Chains -- a far superior band with more variety that did that sound first and did it better.
I haven't listened to more than one or two songs from the new Lamb of God. They have a killer drummer, at least in terms of raw ability, but the vocals are just too guttural for me. I like to hear someone who can actually sing. I dig screaming or growling too, but it shouldn't be all of the time. Otherwise, it becomes completely ineffective.
As for the Live Earth concert tonight, I'm glad to hear the Police ending things on a pretty killer note. It sounded like Sting was having a few throat issues, but overall they were really good. Did you hear Andy Summers f***ing tear it up on the solo for Driven To Tears? Man, that was amazing. And his subtlety during the quiet solo of I Can't Stand Losing You was great too. (Side note: I have five of his solo albums now, all jazz-fusion-based, and he is an amazing guitarist that knows when to play a million notes and when to shut up. Truly one of the greats.) And Stewart Copeland was the epitome of inhuman endurance. His cymbal work is sheer poetry. The only younger drummer that comes anywhere close to his cymbal work is Chad Sexton from 311. Copeland is a completely underrated and often overlooked drummer, mostly because he doesn't spend all of his time playing double bass or just pounding the sh*t out of the toms. He looks like a big, old nerd now, but he can still tear up the kit like few others. The only stain on the performance was bringing out Kanye West...what an embarrassment. Not only does he have a complete lack of ability to find a tone, he couldn't even rap on the beat at first. What was that? Iowa white boy free style? Damn, I rap better than that, and I can't stand rap. He was a spanner in the works, for sure. Otherwise, great set, and I'm glad The Police chose a lot of their lesser-known hits rather than just playing a bunch of stuff from Synchronicity (great album, but they have other great albums, too). They're one of the few bands from the 80s that I think have music that has aged well, and it's good to see them back together (especially after how pop-oriented Sting has gotten lately...nice to see him remembering how to freakin' rock for a change).

So far their new album is pretty good, but definitely more on the Stone Temple Pilots side of things than the GNR side. |

@ Grez I Am Sorry You Feel Like SOAD Hasn't Changed Much, When They Opted To Switch Serj With Daron It Was Over. Daron Is The Most Annoying Singer Ever, he Was Fine For Backup But Jesus Christ He Turned Every One Of Their New Songs To Annoying ****. I Want Serj Back. Also, I Camped Outside For Mezmerize The Day It Came Out, I Was A Huge System Fan, As Soon As I Put The CD In, The Disappointment Overwhelmed Me, I Was Like "This Can't Be Right" I Started Skipping Through Songs, And To My Surprise There Were None To Be Found. Part Of Me Died That Day.
And For The KoЯn Comment, Their New Stuff Is 100% Garbage, The Only One They Hit Was Coming Undone, The Rest Is Straight Trash They Used To Be My Favorite Band :( |

| Re: What are you currently listening to? Oh, I never said they haven't changed much...they definitely have. I just think that there is still a lot to like about quite a bit of the new stuff. I wouldn't want them to put out another album that sounds exactly like Toxicity anyway. And Daron doesn't sing lead on every track or anything...just once in a while. I guess I'm not seeing the big problem that you're seeing.

Personally, while their new stuff is a big change from their old material, I still think it's pretty good (Although, as usual, a few of the songs are complete misses in my book), and I believe that a bunch of the other songs off the new album were also pretty big hits.
Grez since you seem to like AIC, have you ever listened to some of their very early tracks? Very different sound....not the dark theme of their well-known material. (Still great though).
