Default Initial Ballistix Impressions

So i got my tracers in and i threw it into my parent's AM2 board.

First and foremost the ram:

It's tracer and ballistix, but they should be the same memory - it's just that the tracer has the LEDs and different heatspreaders.

I don't have any CPU-Z shots yet (HDD wasn't installed).

The ram is rated at 4-4-4-12 at DDR2-800 for 5-5-5-15 @ DDR2-1000.

Since i'll be using a Core 2 Quad Q6600 in late August, I'll be running it at DDR2-1000.

I ran memtest for about 11 hours (picture show less than that)

And the only thing that i saw was these things get HOT. It's stock voltage of 2.2 V which doesn't help the heat. I'm going to get the OCZ ram fan thing when i build this pc.

Last pic is of the tracer. I didn't go for an artsy shot cause i cut my feet yesterday and i wasn't going to get into any odd positions to get a good shot.

I can't to get this pc built.

theres potentially a cheaper solution than the OCZ RAM fan, i know corsair sells one, and theres a few no-names on xox and newegg as well, might be worth a look

as well as the Thermalright RAM cooler (zomg nice, but like $35)

yeah, the OCZ is one of the cheapest ones that i've found that actually looks like it's built decently well. The other ones are plastic and look like you could break them.

When it comes to brand, i saw the first set for $10 after MIR and the other set for $20 after MIR and the timings and was like might as well.

Yea, i like that one, industrial looks rock. You could disable the LED's or get diff fans so that your tracers would show through.

Is it sad that we mod the mods or is it just me?

it's not you. I was actually thinking about cutting away the restrictive grill and using modders mesh or just leaving it grill-less cause the top looks like it'd be very restrictive. However, it's probably also there for structural support.

yeah. It's the one that is actually well built too.

I saw some of the competitor products and was like what were they thinking?

Plastic frame with spring like objects?

I prefer metal

back when I was using regular DDR-800 Ballistix I was able to hit 1230 on them with 2.25V. This was with an 80mm TT smartfan(60-70CFM) being throttled depending on what my fluke read temps at.
