| Official Xoxide Forums Network Folding@home Team! Folding@home What are proteins and why do they "fold"? Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out their biochemical function, they remarkably assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, remains a mystery. Moreover, perhaps not surprisingly, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious effects, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, and Parkinson's disease.
What does Folding@Home do? Folding@Home is a distributed computing project which studies protein folding, misfolding, aggregation, and related diseases. We use novel computational methods and large scale distributed computing, to simulate timescales thousands to millions of times longer than previously achieved. This has allowed us to simulate folding for the first time, and to now direct our approach to examine folding related disease. - To join our team, download folding@home
- Install folding@home and right click on the display and go to configure
- On the first option page, they will ask for a team number enter: 40826
Our team stats can be found here
in case you care, my stats:
For those who do not understand all the scientific jargon, here's a flash video that will help you understand what it is all about.

| Ok, I've been folding for a few weeks now, and am wondering if we should use this thread now that the old one is closed. Second of all, my average number of points per hour is WAY off, it says I have 53 or so, and I thought that was off, and I got 80 or so, each time that I checked, I was wondering why this is, and then wondering how to get the small signature thing that you have, giving brief amounts of stats. |

I looked up in the FAQ's, but many people have somehow created dynamic gifs or jpegs, where by entering your username and team # in some part of the url to the gif or jpeg tailors it to your stats, just go to the F@H's forums and take a look. |

| Welcome aboard Red. Its simple. Just leave it alone. I will note one thing for future users.
*FOLDING DOES HAVE ISSUES WITH SOME GAMES, IF YOUR GAME WILL NOT LOAD OR MINIMIZES ALOT FOLDING COULD BE CAUSING THIS. YOU CAN SIMPLY EXIT OUT OF F@H AND START IT AFTER YOUR DONE GAMING. |

| I'd agree with you on that duke if you had an 8 instead of that second x because I didn't see too many good reviews for the 13 and 16 series...
and I run F@H when I'm not doing anything else and when it gets cold it my room...i stop if it i start sweating (small room, heat gets trapped fast) |

| i know this is probably a total blind shot, but you think it could be possible to somehow instruct a GPU to perform CPU operations? |

| well i mean, its just a proc right?
i mean, we have add on cards for procs (m2 will have one) and idk i think it would be possible to simply run a F@H on a GPU. |
