| Vista giving you a Server Execution Failed? Well now there's a fix! Thanks to a regular Vista user on Microsoft's TechNet forums, a fix has been found!
Here ya go:
>>Right click "Computer"
>>Click "Manage"
>>Under the "System Tools" section, Double click "Local Users and Groups"
>>Click "Groups"
>>Right click "Administrators"
>>Click "Add to group..."
>>Click "Add"
>>Click "Advanced"
>>Click "Find Now"
>>Double click "Local Service"
>>Click "Ok"
>>"NT Authority\Local Service" should show up in the list now
>>Click "Ok"
>>Close Computer Management and reboot.

| Re: Vista giving you a Server Execution Failed? SugarD-x, Thank you very much, I have seen post in which people have been fighting this for a very long time. I only had to search for one evening before stumbling on this FIX God I love Vista.
It kind of makes you wonder what ten thousand of the brightest programmers in Redmond, WA. do all day to have come up with an OS this good in only six years.
PS - A lot of people can associate the problem with something they did, for me it just happened, one minute it was fine the next ...well not so good. |

| Re: Vista giving you a Server Execution Failed? both versions of home dont have secpol or security policies.
also the admin account is locked by default and must be activated via cmdline.
it appears that any home users are ****ed. you cant join a domain, and any tweaks (if even possible) have to be done via cmdline. |

| Re: Vista giving you a Server Execution Failed? You're just not doing it correctly. The first account created upon install should be an administrator account. If it's not, then find the password to one of them or the "Administrator" account in Safe Mode and use it to create another administrator. All versions of Vista are fine. As for activating from the cmd line, I really have no clue where you are getting this. The administrator accounts in Windows are not like the root accounts in Linux-they can't be activated or edited via cmd line...
As for joining domains, that has been like that since XP Home was released. Only the Professional versions of XP support it, so I'm gonna guess that it's probably the same for the Business, Ultimate, and possibly even other versions of Vista.
Tweaks? Such as? Tweaks are unsupported for a reason, but they are definitely possible through the GUI-you have to be an administrator though to get to them. Most tweaks can't be done via cmd line and some would be pointless and time wasting unless you're better with the cmd line than the GUI, in which case I would recommend you throw away Vista and get a nice, new floppy and put MS-DOS on it lol... |

| Re: Vista giving you a Server Execution Failed? there is a difference between administrator and Administrator, the A account is like a root.
mskb, indulge yourself http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555910
as for vista ult, bus, and ent, to enable Administrator you have to run secpol.msc and check teh box.
another link for those who speak about something they dont know http://www.computerworld.com/action/...icleId=9001970
and as for editing admin accounts via cmdline, youve been able to do that for awhile using net user
========
i have to help admin an entire college of new freshmen coming in with vista laptops, this is something weve been researching for a long while.

I take that back, I suppose you could probably use localhost\(ADMIN ACCOUNT NAME HERE) to do it... |

| Building on BlueShot's fix focused on business Vista, there is now a simple fix for Vista Home users, as well, for the "server execution error" and red "x" over the wireless networking icon.
Simply run a command prompt as an administrator (right-click on it and click "Open as Administrator") then enter the following command line:
net localgroup "Administrators" "NT Authority\Local Service" /add
That should do it. We should thank God for the each other because Microsoft sure has no F-ing idea what they are doing yet.

P.S.- please distribute this to other groups...

| Re: Vista giving you a Server Execution Failed? Just wanted to give my thanks for this cmd line code. I have encountered this problem twice. Once with Vista Ultimate, and I didn't have too much trouble with that. However with my cousin's home premium. The code came in handy, just wanted to say thanks. |

It is difficult to believe that M$ Managers get paid in the 6 & 7 digit range and allowed some of the Vista stuff get out the door. How could anyone at M$ have used Vista for more than an hour and not know that it was Seriously flawed. And Oh by the way some of the big kids at M$ are now starting to admit their mistakes, no fixes but it is a start. |

Vista giving you a Server Execution Failed? Well I had this little beast come back. I don't know exactly when or how. It returned either with the Tuesday Patches from M$ or when I install Norton Internet Security 2008 yesterday (wish I new for sure). Re-applied the original fix and all is well again, but I sure wish I had been paying more attention to my machine. The problem is who the hell checks every detail of the OS after every minor change - Jeez, this Vista Ultimate should be called Vista "either it will or it won't". Every time I fire this puppy up and something strange happens (which happens a lot) I find my self thinking did I really pay hard earned money for all these headaches. I'll bet the in-house M$ Beta testers get payed for for what they are now putting their customers thru. Again my sincere thanks to the original poster of the fix, without which my computer would be totally nonfunctional because I would have taken a stick of dynamite to it by now.

P.S.- please distribute this to other groups... | Hello All,
I've tried 5 different potential solutions but this one worked. I have a Presario C500 notebook running Home Basic. I'm not exactly sure when it happened but last night I noticed I had a red X for my network connection, yet I was still connected to my wireless network at home. Shortly before that I installed AIM 6 and then slightly later, while I was still able to access the Network and Sharing Center, I treid setting up a cial-up connection for my Treo 680 via Bluetooth. After unsuccessfully trying to connect via the bluetooth dial-up, I wasn't able to get into Network & Sharing at all. Of course, the dominoes started falling from there as the machine would get very confused doing other tasks as well.
I wanted to put on record that this solution works for home Basic, well at least for mine it did. :-) |

This is the only fix that has worked for me also. I did have some update or something undo the patch but I simply reinstalled it and everything is back to normal.
It is nice to know that even if it should return you have this Ace up your sleeve.
I would like to quote Docinventor just for the records:
"We should thank God for the each other because Microsoft sure has no F-ing idea what they are doing yet." |
