Thank you god haha
I've been having this problem for so friken long it's been pissing me off. Cause i have to disable and re enable my wifi to get ocnnected and when i tried to open up the wireless connecting utility thing it would freeze and wouldn't load for like 20 minutes which is straight up wrong...specially with an alienware. That kinda crap should not happen.

But thanks that solved everything.
Currently spreading this through every board possible

I must say a very big THANK YOU for this fix. For the past few days I have been getting this problem and also lost ALL sound on my Vista Ulimate.

Everyone I know has been trying to find a solution and no-one could. I found this forum by accident and applied this fix. And all of a sudden after restarting I got my Sound back and no more Server Execution Failed.

So THANK YOU :)

Lightbulb Re: Vista giving you a Server Execution Failed?

Thank you all!!!!! Took me 6 hours to find the right fix (this post) and 5 minutes to fix it after reading this. Installed AIM and got the problem at first. Then I ran the command line:
net localgroup "Administrators" "NT Authority\Local Service" /add
And everthing came back to normal and problem fixed.
THANK YOU!!!!!!

One thing I don't get is how AIM can be so irresponsible. Had no problems untill installing AIM -so regardless if MS is at fault or not, due to the fact that I had no issues for many monhts unltil I installed AIM - I believe AIM should be accountable and help resolved it or have a fix. I will neve install AIM again.

I must say that you guys (or whoever produced this fix) is a GOD!!!!!!

Thank you so much!

I formatted my hard drive after getting this error, then was installed all correct drivers and did everything i should have when i got vista up again and it still found a way to not work (got the error). It definitely was AIM. Wish vista and aim would get their act together.

But other than that I love vista!

Thanks for finding this fix and for everyone posting the solutions!!!!

GREAT JOB!

Smile Re: Vista giving you a Server Execution Failed?

I was having some system instability running Vista on my Asus a7n8x deluxe board with some hacks for the nForce2 drivers, and then I was starting to download the vista updates, but not quite install, and boom, I could 'see the internet' for this very reason in this thread. I read this entire thread and it looks like generic hive corruption that has many failures.

I also crashed due to using an ati radeon 9250 128mb card with ms wddm built in drivers. it might be the chipset drivers that i got were slightly funky, they were a hack from something else i sliced in, but i also think the hampering of directX by ms to force people into pci-e and advanced pci, like evga's cards are really causing problems.

I believe that ms and nvidia/ati are in this together and made agroup decision to force upgrades by not supporting hardware that works as good if not better than nForce4 boards, etc, new pci-e cards.

we are most likely experienceing these problems and getting those vista 'generic updates' because they will NOT allow older components to work unless they get their arm bent.

I am not poor, but I am not affluent. Because of this I used to want to write hacked drivers and circumvent this under the hood movement they are producing, but the more I look at WDDM and consistent drivers with newer much more compliant chips, I am a bit happier they are cleaning up a bit.

Its a shame we all have to hack our systems to get them to work because ms and other companies are purposefully doing this for our own good and their pockets too.

Ah, progress.

Thank you to all for the valuable information, the most of which is the initial poster.

This completely fixed the problem for my Vista Home Premium.

When I look online at M$'s website, they say to just ignore the red x over my network icon... umm... I didn't want to and this worked like a charm!

Thanks again!

Ok, like everyone else I appreciate the fix. I also put it on this forum thread:

http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/...7892&SiteID=17

...since that is essentially the issue myself and they were having. Now...since putting on the fix, I have another issue popping up that wasn't there BEFORE the fix. That is, in the System info screen it does not display in the slots:

Rating:
Processor:
Memory (RAM):

I know...not really that big of a deal, however I just don't want there to be something else I might have missed or done wrong in doing this fix. This is a new issue that appeared as soon as I did the fix that helped the "red x" on the network systray icon and gave accessability to the "Network and Sharing Center" etc.

Anyone know a fix for this one?

Once Sp1 for vista is available, do you think this will effect any updates it applies? Or it will reset this setting and fix it?

That depends. It seems Vista has had an update toward the issue at some point as it is no longer popping up. SP1 should include all previous updates to Vista as well, so it should cover the issue. If not, well, back to this topic I say!

Hey RyaNayR...

Not sure what you meant by "Stats" but is it something similar to what I described above?

If so please let me know what you do/did to remedy that situation. Or anyone else for that matter...

I just want my machine doing what it's supposed to do!

Yea, before the update on this post my Memory and Vista rating were listed just fine.

After I applied the networking fix with the instructions, it stopped showing these details. After updating the SP1 I was hopeful it would restore it. I am thinking about removing the settings added from this post and see if the networking works ok after SP1...maybe it fixed the issue w/out the update done from this site by apply SP1. I'll let you know!

I am debating a fresh reformat, then installing SP1 and starting fresh...but then I have to reinstall all my software. But it may be worth it.

UPDATE on the System Details Not Showing UP. Per another post I found somewhere, I added NETWORK SERVICE to the list the same way we fixed this issue...it fixed it and now i can see my System into in my computer properties!

RyaNayR...thank you so much for that suggestion as it did work! I did however make the mistake of thinking I could get rid of the "Local Service" line, but that just gave me the same error as before, so I re-added it with "Network Service" and it's fine.

Now here's a question for you (or anyone else who might know as well)...

What repercussions might be had by adding "Network Service" or "Local Service" as we have in this fix. I have heard tidbits of blather about a security issue, but didn't understand it completely.

Your thoughts?

A friend of mine whos pretty tech smart said that by adding local service to the list, if you got a virus on one pc, it would open the possibility of it going over the network easier, or something of that sort...I plan to reformat vista now that sp1 is out, and start fresh and just not install AIM again ;)

Default BIG BIG BIG FIX!!! Vista giving you a Server Execution Failed?

(I'm cross posting my own message so please don't bug that the same thing is written on multiple forums...)

Please read all of this as new information null and voids the solution of adding "Local Service" as a fix which causes some security issues. (See below)

Ok, as corrected by a few Forum "posters" on other issues related to this one, there is finally a solution everyone can agree with and can do very easily.

This fixed both the Networking error messages (COM + Event Host etc), the network not realizing you are connected red x (but really are), as well as missing information in System Properties...all of which are due to some glitch in loading SP1 and NOT from having AOL IM.

Just so you can get some background on the fix (and kick yourself that it is just "that" easy) here is the Microsoft KB that explains it:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222

Looks like you can use it in XP as well as Vista (any version) so those of you with the same issues in XP might try this little gem. PLEASE IGNORE PREVIOUS SOLUTIONS THAT ADVISE TO ADD "LOCAL SERVICE" TO ADMIN RIGHTS! Below forum links explain why (thanks Ramzypro).

Here in a nutshell is the fix and how to do it:

1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, then press ENTER

2. For Windows Vista, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose

3. You receive a "Task is completed" message, and a warning message that something could not be done. You can safely ignore this message. For more information about this message, view the %windir%\Security\Logs\Scesrv.log file.
Note In Windows Vista, the defltbase.inf file is a Security configuration template for the default security. You can view the settings for this file in the following location: %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf

So as duly pointed out by Ramzypro in other forums here:

http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/...&tf=0&pageid=1

here:

http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/...&tf=0&pageid=1

and here:

http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/...6119&SiteID=17

I think this does it...but if anyone has anything further to add...please do so and add to what I have put. I'm just a humble intermediate computer operator, not any sort of programmer or sys admin, so unfortunately I won't have many answers for you besides troubleshooting experience or forum scouring knowledge.

THANK YOU docinventor.

I previously used Vista on my laptop for about a month, but uninstalled after a combination of frustration with the bugs and the fact that my laptop was borderline vista capable. Now after building a new PC, I gave it another shot. THANK YOU for fixing the only problem I have had thus far. It even gave me BSODs sometimes (DRIVER_IRQL_IS_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL)
