Default Using pc as a gateway

Alright, so i've got a laptop and a desktop that i need connected. I got the crossover cable to connect them port to port (can't use a switch or hub). I can't get the internet to work on it. I can share files and get to my mapped D drives, but that's about it.

Any suggestions on how to do this? I've googled this and didn't really find anything. I found a guide a on wiki a while back but can't find it again. Any help would be great.

No you wont?

I do this in VMWare all the time, but instead of a laptop, I have the Virtual OS and the Virtual NIC.

I'll go grab my settings for you Duke.

no... you do not need server 2003 or anything of the sort.

one machine needs 2 nics in it... one for the internet to come in, and the other for the crossover cable to the second machine.

This even works with Win98 as well.

once you have the 2 nics in the machine that is hooked to the internet, go and turn on internet connection sharing... you can use the wizard or do it manually... either way works...

it is extremely easy and simple, and works every time.

I got it guys thanks. What i did was told both cards to automatically obtain ip address and then i bridged two connections on my desktop.

So i've got 10/100 coming into the desktop and then i've got 10/100/1000 going into my laptop.
