Default Problems with voltages methinks?

I just built this new rig and was running smooth for a week or so before problems started happening...was wondering if anyone could give me some tips...ill start with the basics:

850w Antec PSU
Asus Crosshair Formula II
AMD Phenom X4 9850 "Black Edition"
WD 300gb VelociRaptor 10k RPM
eVGA GE-FORCE 9800 GX2
Corsair dominator ddr2 1066 4GB

The first problem I encountered was the fact that I couldn't make any changes to the BIOS, save it, and be able to reboot, because it just wouldn't. OK, cool...I can deal with that, I've no intent to OC anything in the immediate future. I initially installed a 64bit of Vitsa Ultimate which might have been a mistake from the get-go. I managed to find workarounds for MOST of the problems, but then the random reboots started happening. I attributed this so the OS, so I then installed a 64bit copy of XP. From here a myriad of problems start to unfold, such as: Not being able to boot up at all, not being able to get into the BIOS (even after resetting, clearing, and attempting to flash to the most recent release) POST messages reading strange things like "errormsg" as well as the POST hanging on "det dram", "det ide" (I have no IDE drives), "cpu init", all of which came in either the regular or flashing message type on the little LCD poster thing that came with the board. From time to time I was able to actually boot into XP but this seemed pretty hit-or-miss, and when I could, and tried to shut down via desktop, it would take a good few minutes to ge to the "Windows is shutting down" screen and just hang there forever. Cherishing a successful boot I immediately updated and flashed the BIOS, and attempted to monitor stats. Temps all in check but the voltages, according to the program that came with the drivers (PC Probe II), showed random fluctiations in peak and troughs with, iirc, DDR2 voltages (trough of 0.00, peak of 3.0, should be at 1.97 or so), with DDR2 TERM fluctuating as well (I've no idea what this is) and, I think, BR voltages, again, no idea what this is. The Vcore, however is sitting right at a happy medium of 1.25. I've tried swapping it with a stick of DDR2 667 from my old rig, which stabilized slightly. I was convinced that all of these problems were from a faulty BIOS/mobo perhaps. I got as far as unplugging EVERYTHING from the mobo when I got a funny feeling and decided to try things one more time. And here I am, monitoring the voltages which were stable with both the 1GB of DDR2 677 I put in and now with the Dominator 4GB sticks. I'm at a loss as to what caused this problem but everything seems fine for the moment <knocks on wood> but I'd like to know what caused this problem, and if it can happen again...

If you can't change bios settings get a RMA on the board. Software sucks for voltage monitoring, don't believe it. Use a multimeter.
