| Re: protein shakes Not a fan. You probably don't actually need it anyway, and if you do, just go eat a steak.
Google turned this up, you might want to read it: http://health.msn.com/fitness/articl...ntid=100166349
Then again, I build muscle very quickly, so it's not even been something I've felt I've needed. |

| Re: protein shakes i take it. I think it helps.
I never tried the strawberry kind.
I do the chocolate/vanilla. Shake well my friend. Nothing worse then having to pretty much chew your protein.
And I don't know if it's from taking more protein or just pushing my body harder, but i've gone up in bench.
I don't do bench press rather the dumb bell press.
At the start of the quarter, i'd max out at maybe dual 65s, but last time i maxed out at dual 85s.
So i say push yourself and take protein. Works for me

| Re: protein shakes muscle milk is good, great taste. high in fat for a shake tho, but it's the best taste. Chocolate and Vanilla are best, since they combine best with milk.
I take Pro performance. I've gone up roughly 70 pounds on bench max (from 200 to 270ish) and am rapidly approaching 850 on leg press (i work out with 550-700).
Honestly, you may wanna get a few samples and see what works best. Also, the people at GNC are friendly and can point you in the right direction. |

| Re: protein shakes i read somewhere on the internet that you should not ask anyone for advice unless they are build and they use the protein shakes (most GNC people arent build)
The owner of the gym that i go to is a body builder and he said that he has been using that champion nutrition for about 11 years, i also asked him about muscle milk he told me its good but he doesn't like it because its high in fat |

| Re: protein shakes If your looking for protein just about any one of the drinks is going to do the same for you as long as your working out with it. If you simply looking for a "good" tasting one well.... 1)they all taste like *** and 2) it will depend on your personal taste so just go try them all.
Don't use creatine., it has too many negative side effects. Besides, what are you doing this for? Simply to gain muscle? Thats protein. To win your next UFC match? Sure, maybe try creatine.
Creatine basically increases your production of energy and injects your muscles with water, temporarily increasing the size and ability of said muscles. You use that enhanced ability to work out with more weight than you could normally. You use the increased size to.... stare at yourself in the mirror? :)
Anyway, so you just get a boost in your performance while you take it. However, when you are done taking it the water will leave your muscles making them smaller. They will be bigger than when you started of course, and you will have gotten to whatever point you got to a little quicker because of it's effects, but they will still decrease in size no matter what when you stop taking it. Quote:
One thing is almost certain: If you take creatine, you'll gain weight.
It'll happen quickly, says Paul Greenhaff, Ph.D., professor of muscle metabolism at the University of Nottingham in England. While the initial gain is water (about 2 to 4 pounds in the first week of supplementation), subsequent gains are muscle due to the increase in the workload you can handle.
Because creatine is an "osmotically active substance," it pulls water into your muscle cells, which increases protein synthesis, Kerksick says.
| Quote: |
Another negative side effect of creatine is when you get off the cycle. If you take creatine for 4 months and then stop taking it, you will notice a sharp decrease in your energy level and appearance. Your body might ‘deflate’ slightly as you lose the excess water weight.
| Google around for the side effects. You weigh the potential risks and the small increase in benefits of just doing it normally. Quote: So there's no downside?
Not so fast, Biceps-Brain. If you can get big without it, there's no reason to use creatine.
"I feel it would be better for no one to use creatine even though it's shown to increase some strength and muscle mass," says Jim King, M.D., president of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
"I wouldn't recommend doing anything that would show minimal improvement and possible risk. Weigh the negatives and the benefits before you try it."
Kids under age 18 should avoid creatine, King says, because few studies have been done on children using creatine as an exercise enhancement.
There have been reports of overexertion causing torn muscles. That can mean permanent damage. "Children are still in a growing phase, and we're not sure what impact creatine may have on muscles and bones as they grow," he says. "I feel very strongly that middle and even high schoolers shouldn't use it."
| Seems teh experts agree with me.

| Re: protein shakes I am currently doing this regiment.
- AnimalPak with breakfast.
- N.O. Xplode 20 minutes pre-workout.
- CellMass immediately post-workout.
- ON protein shake of 1 1/2 scoops 30 minutes after CellMass.
- Normal food after that.
Yeah CellMass is a creatine supplement. I don't know, but I've been taking the N.O. and CM stack for about 2 weeks now and my lifts have all gone up. Squats and Leg Press are the biggest gains for me and overall weights is shooting up too. I'm bulking now and I've gone from ~133 to ~137 so far. I'm a small person so those gains are pretty big for my size. Sure it might be water so far, but I don't care about losing size afterwards, as long as the gains happen with it. People are afraid of losing size but if you go from A to C then to B you are still better off than being at A.
As for ****ty tasting protein? Please. Don't buy **** and it won't taste like ****. Optimum Nutrition's flavors all kick ass. I have chocolate mint right now and it tastes like a GirlScout Thin Mint cookie.

| Re: protein shakes dude, the GNC stuff might be gnarly; however, if you dring a glass of milk a day ( as I do, just 1) mix your prrotein with that. THe vanilla stirs in without clumps, and the result is actually not bad, something akin to melted vanilla ice cream. Try that, see if it works. You can also mix it into peanut butter if you eat that stuff. |

People are afraid of it because of the as-of-yet clear view on it's side effects like stunting growth and assorted sexual problems. |

And what's with the random off topic crap in this thread?
On topic: I can taste a big difference in Optimum Nutritions protein and the Wal-Mart brand. Wal-Mart is chalky. ON's is a lot smoother and delicious with milk. However, the only flavor I wouldn't recommend (despite my earlier post) is banana cream. It doesn't taste like the pie... haha. Think Laffy Taffy. |

| Re: protein shakes honestly, from a nutrition standpoint (i cook, avidly, and study food, somewhat avidly, oh yeah, and work out, lawl) i'd say just re-work your diet to introduce the elements you need, naturally, instead of chugging it all down
you don't just need huge amounts of protien, fiber also helps, so do proper RDAs of vitamins/minerals, sufficient water (this means a few liters a day, on average, not like 16 oz during a workout, i dont mean drink until you puke though, i mean if you know you're gonna work out at like 4, start drinking in the morning, to get yourself fully hydrated by 4, and i mean WATER, not propel, not gatorade, not G2, not flavor-aid, not vitamin water, WATER, H2O, the clear stuff that comes out of facuets (i love laughing at those propel commericals "15 calories per bottle, how healthy is your water?" (me: 0 calories, per unlimited, LAWL!))
anyways, i agree with the "go eat a steak", to a point, theres a negative to eating any single type of food or suppliment en masse, it deprives you of other things, if you want to increase protien, push things like beans, legumes, etc, but NOT things like burgers or hot dogs ( two reasons: A) sausages have nitrates which are bad for you and B) burgers have cheeses, really high fat content (just the meat is only like 70 lean, not like 95 lean) and the bread = carbs = not always best))
generally a good diet scheme to mirror is mediteranian/italian cuisine, starches and protiens, in reasonable servings (not americanized portions), basically what i'm getting at, is your body's chemistry is at harmony, you'll get performance back out, if you just shock your system with huge amounts of X-substance for a period of time, and then take that away, its harder on your body
also, unless you NEED to bulk up, like for sports (lol, "winning your next UFC match") or a job (i dont mean like to be a lifegaurd, i mean like to be in the Marines), take things naturally, because if you start pushing your muscles too far you'll start dropping your body fat and honestly once you get down to like 2-3% body fat, its not that fun (you should be something like 6-8% iirc, also consider i'm talking averages, not any specific #, i just know once you start getting around 2% you've basically gone from human looking, to strech armstrong here: http://www.myprotein.co.uk/img/sponsor/hunni.jpg)) |

| Re: protein shakes Yeah I do sometimes but I prefer eggs and chicken for my protein.
As for a particular brand or whatever, that would probably be better asked at a bodybuilding site; but, I usually go for vanilla. |
