Question Remote Power Button.

I was hoping someone could give me some guidance on how to setup a remote/extended power button for a system without losing the functionality of the stock power button.

Here is the situation. We are building a large system that is controlled by a computer and we need to place the computer in an out of the way place so it makes reaching the stock power button hard. We would like it to be as simple as possible and be able to easily disconnect.

I've thought of just making some type of pass-through connector that will allow me to connect both the stock button and the extended button to the motherboard. Run the wiring to the outside by putting some type of two pin connector in a slot cover to give me access to the outside of the PC. That will allow me to connect and disconnect without having to open the PC. The big question is how long can the cabling be and still work.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
BubbaGee

Thanks for all the ideas and help guys. Looks like I have another problem getting access to some of the wires/connections I need. I have a Dell T3400 desktop computer and Dell has created a single connector for all the front panel items (power button, drive access lights, power indicator, etc.). I'll need to create a special connector that will let me tap into the motherboards pwr button connection once I determine which one it is.

Plus I'm trying to get a way from the wireless connections because it is going to be installed in an industrial setting and I feel safer with a wired connection.

Thanks,
BubbaGee
