| Hd Benchmark Thread The purpose of this thread is simple. To see how different models/makes of HD's compare to one another.
The guidelines are simple.
1) download HD Tune
2) run tests on each of your hard drives/ hard drive setups
3) post your results with a screenshot, note HD Tune has a nice little screenshot button (picture of blue floppy). This will save you a couple keystrokes.
I'll keep all of the results in a couple of lists, so it's easy to read/compare.
If you are using raid, please mention that in your post.
For most users, a shorter access time is more important then average speed, which is why we'll start with that list. Updated through post #31 Access Time

| Re: Hd Benchmark Thread Do you have a screenshot to go along with that?
I wouldn't worry about WD appearing to be slow. Seeing that both my WD and yours are fairly old compared to the others tested so far. |

| Re: Hd Benchmark Thread Thanks. FYI, you have a seagate
It also looks like you have a lot of processes in the background eating up your HD's bandwidth. If you get bored enough you might as well kill all of your processes and retest it. |

| Re: Hd Benchmark Thread This is a Hitachi 320GB hard drive (HDT725032VLA380) which has been used for almost exactly 1 1/2 years. I took it out of an HP computer I bought back then. It really sucks. It's the next part I want to replace. I want to go RAID 0 but I hear that's difficult on 64 Vista.

| Re: Hd Benchmark Thread These are old drives, over 4 years, and no raid on this system.
HD Tune: WDC WD1600JB-00REA0 Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 34.4 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 57.5 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 49.6 MB/sec
Access Time : 13.4 ms
Burst Rate : 77.5 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 70.2%
HD Tune: WDC WD2000BB-22GUC0 Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 25.4 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 56.1 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 45.8 MB/sec
Access Time : 14.5 ms
Burst Rate : 81.5 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 72.7%
For what it's worth, this system is getting a rebuild in a few weeks. I have partitions on both drives and they have not been defraged in quite a while. Smart is still good so I'm good there. But the machine is just running odd and has actually been going on its original E-Machine install for 4 years. This particular build started as an emachine, and has grown from there, the only thing left from the EM is the HD.

@ RcRon7. IF you get any spare time, could you redo those and add some screenshots? Just for reference. |

OH forgot to mention these are 3 WD RaptorX drives in Raid5, I am sure that if I was to "Short Stroke" them like Duke that they would toss out a huge numbers...but it is what it is, 3 WD RaptorX drives in RAID 5. An I have to say that they looked badass when the bench mark was running and the armatures were dancing about the platters in unisin.

I think it's interesting to see how HD's have changed over the last few years. |

Assuming that the RAID 5 is your primary boot partition, why don't you put the drives in a 3 drive RAID 0 for say 150ish GB max (i.e short stroked) and then make a RAID 5. ICHR raid allows that you do up to i think two RAIDs on your drives. |
