Wow that sucks. When my MuVo was no longer recognized under Windows, it was screwed. No more MuVo. =/
I advise you to beware of static. I cannot stress this enough. :(

Try it on someone elses system to determine if it's a problem with the drive/druve USB cable itself or if it's your system which is causing the issue. Try other USB devices in the ports on your system to see if the USB ports are functional. If the HD works on another comp, and the USB ports on your system work, then it's most likely an OS conflict or driver issue somewhere. Might try forcing new hardware detection, going over any changes you may have made recently since just before it stopped working, look at doing a system restore if you're on XP and have an older restore point, maybe try a repair of XP...

well i figured out that if I :

1.Disconnect the USB
2.Turn off the harddrive
3.Turn it back on
4.Reconnect the USB

Well I guess I will keep doing this until i get Firewire..
the it wil lwork again..

Burn yourself a Knoppix CD:

http://www.knoppix.org/

With the Drive connected, reboot to the CD and see if it detects it. If it does, then there's still a distinct chance of saving it under Linux. When Windows wouldn't read my 256MB flash key, all I needed to do was format it in Linux and it was good.
