| Depends on the type of gaming you want to do. If you want a descent frame rate on most of the new shooters then I would atleast go with 9600 Pro or better. If you usually just play 2D or low-poly-count 3D then the SE would be ok. I personally think the GF MX440 8X is a slightly better card for the money over the SE's. SE are just too stripped of all the good stuff that the Radeons have to offer. |

| if you are looking at that card....i would look at pricewatch or newegg for the cheapest card you can find....cause this card is one of the slowest around...so it best be the cheapest around(i doubt it) considedr the 9000pro or ti4200(if you can find it cheap) or a mx460 |

| Is $100 a reasonable price for an average card? I don't know what to look at so since you all seem to know your video cards, I'm asking you for a reccomendation. Again I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I do some gameing. Thanks.

| ok then for less than $100 i would go for the ti4200-ti4400 series. there right around that price. and they play alot of the new games well. like battlefield and etc. but dont count on it to do well with hl2 comes out. but nowadays $150 is the average for a nice vid card. |

| I'm not a big fan of THG either but that's the only place I could find a comparision chart. If you want you could search for reviews for all the cards in your budget range and try pick the best one base on the reviews. Each card, no matter who makes it, will be slightly different because there is not a perfect design or manufacturing process. |

Here is one example of such: (from digilife, if you doubt TH's objectivity/competence) http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/...s-1024-p4.html |

| If you can get the plain 9600 (non-pro but not an SE) then that would be better. At least then you have good gaming and it still costs less than $100. The SE does suck though. Quote: |
Originally Posted by Airmack acording to that chart, a 8500 beat a 9000... lol | That's because the 8500 is faster. The 8500 will usually beat a 9000, 9100, and even the 9200. |

| Thanks for your advice. I have decided that I might go with the Radeon 9600 ($125 @ NewEgg), but this one caught my eye also: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...alog=48&depa=1 ($130 @ NewEgg)

| Yeah.... but what about the XFX nVIDIA GeForce FX5600 ULTRA(link above)? I just dont want to end up with a steaming pile for a video card. Get one and find that it sucks and then find that I can't return it and I'm stuck with it(or I could get different one, but its a waste of money) Any suggestions on reasonably priced monitors? |
