| My New Laptop/Netbook. Well, today I went to Best Buy and bought this for $350.
I'm suprised by the performance of it, and extremely happy with it. It's got a 1.6ghz Atom, XP Home, 1gb of DDR2 533, and a 120gb HD. All in an extremely small package.
So far, I've tested it out for a variety of normal tasks, and it handles normal web browsing, and music/movies quite well, along with working fine with old games (Age of Empires II, GTA: Vice City). Battery life is around 2 hours on the 3-cell, but there is a 6-cell available. Wi-Fi works great, and for being such a tiny screen, my eyes didn't have any problems with it after 4 hours of use, and it's bright enough to be used outdoors. Keyboard is 95% of full-size, and didn't take any getting used to.
Also, for those times when I want a bigger monitor, it's got a VGA out on it, which works fine with my 19 inch Samsung LCD.
.
.
.
That's an issue of maximum PC it's sitting on top of, and my phone is next to it for size comparison.
I'm curious, does anyone else own this (Acer Aspire One), or it's competitors, like the eee PC, MSI Wind or HP Mini-note? |

| Re: My New Laptop/Netbook. Nice find man. I bought a notebook for 450 this weekend at best buy, A compaq.
That mini notebook seems like it would just be too darn small for me! Although i bought my notebook to replace my desktop, and im sure you bought that to have additionally.
Sweet deal man! |

I'm doing an AP Computer Science class independently, easier to have my own machine than try to get everything I need installed at school and have to transport it back and forth and such, and a normal laptop is too big to really carry around easily, so this is perfect.
As for the size, it is really tiny, but the keyboard is basically full size (Not like the 80% of the old eee PC's), and is has been great for typing on so far. I could see the size of the screen bothering a few people (like those who have issues staring at a normal monitor for a long time), but it doesn't bother me at all so far. |

| Re: My New Laptop/Netbook. it's pretty good? I remember reading [H]s take of it (Atom) and they were less then impressed with it. But i guess if it's fast, then all is good.
They need to shrink the NB badly. |

I'm going to test out DVD playback from an external drive tomorrow, and do some more CPU-intensive testing. |

| Re: My New Laptop/Netbook. ACER makes great laptops. I currently own an ACER 5672wlmi a 2.33Ghz dual core Merom, 2GB of OCZ DDR, 320GB HD, ATI X1600, Super-multi drive and it has a ton of inputs and outputs. The damed thing does just about everything.
I love ACER because they offer a lot of great features for much less than their competitors. Thier support is pretty decent too. |

| Re: My New Laptop/Netbook. @Duke. I just ran SiSoft Sandra Lite on it, here's a some benchmark numbers on the processor along with a comparison to a Pentium M 715 (1.4ghz):
Processor Arithmetic: 3881/3345 Atom 1.6ghz, 3392mflops/4544mips Pentium M 715 (1.4ghz)
Processor Multimedia: 29255/19910 Atom 1.6ghz, 14689iit/13289fit Pentium M 715 (1.4ghz)
Obviously, it isn't the fastest thing on the planet, but it's definitely not horrible.
