| Am I gonna snap the motheboard? So I picked up a ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard with the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400... the installation is going well except the dam CPU fan.
Instructions indicate to start at one corner, snap in the first clip, then the next clip that should be snapped in is the one directly diagonal from the first... I am trying to snap this one in and I'll tell you, I feel like I am going to snap the motherboard.. I am a little hesitant to apply so much pressure.. how the hell do I get this fan in? No matter what clip I start with first, I cannot seem to get the 2nd one to take... how much pressure do I need to get this dam thing in? |

I certainly can apply more pressure, but I start to hear 'things' and get nervous that the motherboard is cracking, man... I decided to leave it until tomorrow.. |

| Re: Am I gonna snap the motheboard? Well i installed mine while the mobo was mounted.
Wait till someone else chimes in. Just to make sure they feel the same ;) |

| Re: Am I gonna snap the motheboard? you won't snap it, but you might bow it. Bow in a board is normal especially if you have a heavier heatsink.
I installed an Intel HSF yesterday and was pushing pretty hard and was like eh...but it was fine. |

| Re: Am I gonna snap the motheboard? I ruined my 680i mobo due to, having to take the board out to actually get my sink on, which took way to much force then anything should take. Just be careful. |

| Re: Am I gonna snap the motheboard? You would be surprised on how much motherboards can actually handle force. I had a 680i motherboard also and it took quite a bit of force but I got the heatsink on. Just be careful and you should be fine, a little bow in the board is nothing to really worry about. |

| Re: Am I gonna snap the motheboard? Well I have a 775 board and my HSF wasn't that hard to get on but everyone is different.
If you're going to apply too much pressure then lay the board flat on a table that has a form of protection on it that way it will bow till it hits the table then stop and then you can get it all in. |

| Re: Am I gonna snap the motheboard? don't lay it on a table, because it won't let you get the pins through the holes, so you'll sit and try to force the pins into the table (and if the table is crap, you can damage the table)
LGA 775 retention pins are a mother**** to install, depending on the heatsink (AC Freezer 7 Pro is the reason I will never buy an Intel rig for personal use, until they move to something like AMD has, or until someone starts stocking Thermalright crap again), and the board layout |

In my previous builds, I do not ever remember having this much trouble or being 'too careful' to get anything into a motherboard... but since this is my first 775, it is new to me.. I will apply as much pressure I need to get the dam thing in!
obobskivich, I also have a AC Freezer 7 Pro and it appears I won't be able to install it.... I want to point the fan towards the back vent of my case, but it seems that the heatsink on the fan just won't sit correctly due to the various heatsinks on this motherboard. Below is the board I have... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131297
Having the fan point to the front of the case is basically the same thing, the fan itself is just too big for that area. It does appear I can install it either facing up, blowing into the PSU, or facing down to the bottom of the case...
Question is, if I decide to point it either up or down, which would be best? I'm thinking point it down to the bottom of the case. The case itself has ample fan cooling, but not sure if there would be a dust factor pointing down, blowing into the rest of the motherboard, VGA, etc..
Or do I simply use the CPU Fan that came with the processor? I guess, that is my last option..
It would stink if I couldn't use this thing as I've read some good things about the 7 Pro AND I already paid for it! Any advice?

| Re: Am I gonna snap the motheboard? Try mounting This: (ASUS Triton79 AMAzing)
On this: (ASUS Striker II Formula)
The pins are under the fins. Its the ASUS Triton79 AMAzing heatsink. 120mm fan, and 6 inches tall. Good cooling, looks great inside the system but damn is it a pain. I have to pull my rear 120mm fan, and the back I/O Shield to get to the upper left pin. As well, it bows my board when installing it. Never had a problem with it, and Ive changed it several times thru different boards. |

| Re: Am I gonna snap the motheboard? i'm having trouble trying to afford that system, let alone mount it, lol
yeah, i hate the freezer pro, it is actually square (you can get it to go a number of ways on the system), its just a royal pain because of its design, once its on, it stays on, and does cool quite well though |
