| Help with buying a new computer parts I need some help with buying new parts, motherboard, hdd, dvd-rom, and ram. I need it it to be really cheap, and it does not need to be top of the line, it's for surfing the internet basically. My computer is really pissing me off so I'm getting rid of all the old used crap in there. The reason why such a change is I've been having errors trying to install win98, win98se, and 2000 server, none successful. I tried it several times and no luck, so what I want,
A cheap amd athlon/duron motherboard (for amd athlon t-bird 1.33ghz)
A cheap 40 gig hdd (well descent brand anyway)
I think I'll go with a lite-on 16x dvd player (unless something cheaper)
128-256 ddr ram (lower end)
at most $150, ,maybe $200 if must
Please help me out! |

| How is the Abit KD7A Via KT400A motherboard, or the NF7? I think I'll go with one of those, want to keep the price low. |

| if you use a bad power supply then your system wont work or you will get random crashes, try to get one compatible with your video card or 300W+... i guess u dont need that much just get a quality one from name brands like Antec, Enermax, Fortron, sparkle Ect. |

Abit NF-7 - $67
Sapphire 64mb Radeon 9000 Pro - $54 (Cheap and it's capable of playing some of today's games.)
Western Digital 40 gb 7200 IDE - $55
Kingston ValueRAM 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-2700 - $48
Sony 16x DVD-Rom Drive - $29
A lot better than the 9200 SE. If you're gonna get a 9200, get the regular one.
Total: $253
$53 over but it's worth it, I guess. It really can't be helped unless you get lots of generic stuff or if you wait for Bestbuy, Circuit City, and CompUSA to have some rebate deals on RAM. |

| If you're not a gamer, then I definitely think you won't need the extra 64mb. But anyways, good luck! |

| Well seeing as how your not really a gamer, just about any black CRT would do right? If that's the case then wait for places like CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City to have some sales on black CRTs. When they're on sale, you can usually get a 17 inch for less than $100. |

| Oh really, thats sweet, to bad there isn't a bestbuy or anything for 500 miles! Hope they have cheap shipping! Lol, theres a bestbuy in Fargo but I live 500 miles from there and 6 miles from the canadian border, I live in a bland area. :/ |
