Default VERY VERY bad news!

Intel is pushing for anti OCing. as you know the multipliers on all p4 procs have been locked. now intel is pushing for a circut that will auto detect CPU frequency and prevent OCing. this circut will be built into the intell chipsets the new procs and all intel MOBOs.

annyone have annything to say or to shed some more light on the subject?

(hopefully prooving me wrong)

hmmm, i have heard the opposite of late.

that they are actually going to start putting a overclocking/tweaking utility for doing overclocking and hardware monitoring for intel mobo's.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/mainboa...829111031.html

so i wonder what hte case is? maybe locking intel cpu's unless you buy a intel mobo? haha. :/ uh oh

That comment was uncalled for.

You know, I bet manufacterors can find a way around it. They were able to enable PAT on the 865 chipset. My guess is that, if Intel does do this (Which they probably wont, in my mind), someone will come up with a way to disable it and thus raise the FSB.

Think about it. If they enable this thing, they might not lock the multipliers anymore because you cant change the frequency anyway. So if you were able to disable the program, we'd have access to the FSB AND multipliers again. We'll just have to see what Intel does.

This rumor has been around since the 300 > oc450 Celeron days; and people have been griping that Intel chipsets don't support OCing for even longer . . .

If Intel ever wanted to dump a load of hurt on AMD, they'd find a way to include an "OC tell-tale" switch on the CPU to refute frivolous "warrenty" claims, and enable OCing with their chipsets . . .

The fact is that both AMD and Intel are well aware that OCers are still less than 10% of all users, but that every successful OC creates or reaffirms a loyal fan for either brand; And since hardcore OCers usually have an "Uber-Geek" status among their peer group (and especially their non-OCing contacts), then that's one more fanatic waving the flag for their favorite team . . .

Thats bull crap.
Intel would lose the whole enthusiest market if they did that.

I think they will release processors that overclock themselves before they stop us from overclocking.

Exactly. Intel wouldn't do that. Honestly why the hell don't they make procs that are unlocked and OC like crazy? Then n00bs fry their procs, they want another intel to OC, intel makes another sale. It's that simple.
