| Mod of the Month? Others have it, we dont.
So i thought up a way to generate some traffic to this site other than our top 10 posters...and possibly get some prizes from Xoxide.com!!
Run a MotM thread with rules:
1. Must be a new mod. (Not currently on ANY other forum, and not one that exists here already)
2. Must be a registered member here to vote. I propose a post count restriction too. So that friends of people cant just join and their one post is the vote.
3. Mod logs cannot reside on any other forum that would sponsor a MotM contest.
Winners will receive a set prize from Xoxide.com, and you can only win so often, like once every 6 months.
Any other suggestions? |

| Re: Mod of the Month? Actually, this is fairly similar to the idea I've been kicking around for the past few weeks. I was hoping to start up a mod competition that would run once every month or two (or maybe even every three months, who knows?) and be based around a theme. For instance, one month's theme could be "Liquid LANBox" and require participants to use a liquid cooling system in the Thermaltake LANBox case, while the next one could be something simple like "Colder Cathodes" and just require participants to use blue cathode lighting. These are just examples, but you get my point. I think it would be great to do something like this, because we could potentially get the manufacturers in on it (since some of the competitions would require the use of certain manufacturers' products) so that we could provide some truly awesome prizes to the winner(s)! |

| Re: Mod of the Month? While that sounds good, i think it limits people too much. Most forums use members nominating others for the MotM, then once they get nominated, i believe they are put in a thread with a poll and voted on. The nomination can come during a build, but since we have so many on here now, i didnt want older ones getting nominated cause i dont think its fair.
We do need more members (ACTIVE!!) and i think we need to start somewhere simple like with maybe a $25 gift cert to the winner (obviously from Xox) and go from there.
I do agree on the business type end being excluded, but North as far as you go, im not sure you qualify, and if its a home use vs making-it-for-something-profitable i would think it might be ok.
Also, maybe later on other rules can be thrown in, like you have to do some serious soldering or nibbling like SethnMalice. But who knows? |

You want the average joe who sits in his basement with a dremel and a paper and pencil to feel as though they have just as much chance... people like Bill (no offense here Bill) who make the cover of PC Magazine are in a completely different category and in all fairness, shouldn't be included in a little mod of the month thing for here.
Now... if it is something like... a person who sees a cool mod online and posts a pic of it to be voted on... and we are just picking a mod of the month from mods from all over teh internet, not specifically done by people here... then that's different... but I think if we had our own little in-house one, it would draw in new members, as well as make for some fun and maybe a little competitive jousting for all the members!
It would also count me out for most things, although for private builds, or like the one for my son... but I would exclude myself anyways since I own a business building mod hardware (well used to make them) and am a mod here.
But... if we made it so it was for every normal, from beginner on up, and made it kinda fair... I say great idea!
~NortH~ | 'Professional' modders should support the community and not compete in these types of contests. I doubt anyone in that category would disagree. We have abundant chances to compete and get seen. Instead we should help up and coming modders (like Furball) reach their potential just as other modders have helped us along the way. Just my two cents. |
