Question external hard drive connectors don't match

Recently purchased and external enclosure but the connectors don't fit the old drive. I bought a sata esata/usb. It has one small plug but the hard drive has a much larger one & a seperate plug for power.

The enclosure you bought/have has an IDE connector and a Molex power connector. They make converters for that sort of thing, but I doubt it'd fit inside your enclosure. Really, your only options are 1) return the drive, and buy the proper one, or 2) buy a new enclosure with the proper Sata connectors.

However, if it were me, I'd get a new enclosure. It will save you time/hassle having to return the drive, and get a new one. You'll also have a faster setup (about twice the transfer rate), as IDE is getting dated now, and you have the option of larger drives. The last time I looked, the largest IDE drive available was 500gb, while Sata drives go up to 2tb now, and will only go up from there.

i think you read it backwards.

hes got an old IDE hard drive (the hard drive has a much larger one & a seperate plug for power)

so you have an IDE hard drive and Sata Enclosure.

Youll need to get either an IDE enclosure or Sata Hard Drive.

I did read it backwards. Oops. In that case, I'd send back the drive, and get a Sata version. For the same reasons as I suggested getting a sata enclosure above. Sorry for any confusion.
