| Just picked up an E6550 I went to Fry's electronics saying that I'd only buy a case, and ended up buying a processor too. It kinda makes sense because it's the only thing I need to get my build running (though the ram isn't new, and the board isn't the one I want for it, and I've got no video card for it.. It'll run.). Anyways, I know E6550's are pretty common for mid-range, but I recall hearing people pushed them to crazy speeds. I don't have the cash (or experience!) to put together a water cooling loop, has anyone been able to overclock it on stock cooling? If it makes any difference, the case I picked up is a thermaltake lanbox lite (with the oh-so-sexy piano mirrored finish), which has vents galore. |

| Re: Just picked up an E6550 I'd strongly recommend against going with stock cooling, especially if you're going to be overclocking. You can pick up a really good heatsink for it in the neighborhood of $30-50. My first choices are always the Thermalright heatsinks, specifically the Ultra-120 eXtreme, Ultra-120, XP-120, Ultra-90, and XP-90. You can check out these and other HSFs at Xoxide. |

| Re: Just picked up an E6550 If I keep it on stock clocking (for now) the stock cooler does a decent job, right? I know every once in a blue moon a major company will skimp on a cooler and it never ends well. |

Thermaltake CL-P0114 Big Typhoon is recommended for a dual-core processor. |

| Re: Just picked up an E6550 The E6550 has a low multi so if you have a good board and ram you should be able to push that thing hard. My friends E6550 + IP35 Pro + 4GB of Patriot DDR2 800 is running at 3.4 on stock volts. He is using my Thermalright Ultra 90 I won from xox!! |

| Re: Just picked up an E6550 3.4ghz! Dang! Water cooled, I'd bet. Anyways, I've hit another bump in the road. The spare sticks of DDR2.. weren't DDR2. Once I got everything else into the case, I realized that I had no RAM for it. I've gotta wait until my next paycheck. I'd buy a stick of marginal RAM just to get it up and running, but I'd rather wait a bit longer and get 2gb DDR2 1066! |

| Re: Just picked up an E6550 I guess once I have the system complete (another couple of weeks at this rate, and another couple after that for the video card) I can start to test the water and see how my temps fluctuate under load and idle, and see if I got one that's better or worse than the average E6550. Never thought there was much difference, though it is kinda cool that there is. |

i opened up PC Wizard and it said
Processor - 20
Core 0 - 38
Core 1 - 37
Core 2 - 35
Core 3 - 37
i dont understand
i do have the voltages all the way down and a small oc on it. 1.15V according to PC Probe/CPUz
thats cooling it
ATM i have F@H running on all 4 cores and PC Probe says 34*C and Coretemp says around 50's

BTW, hotlinking images=FAIL.
BTW, Zalmans are expensive and not any better than an Ultra-120 of any flavor. |
