| Joe's Right. Your CPU's thermal shutoff threshold would prevent it from happening, not to mention that your processor would fry around 90C and your computer would shut down. Your story is 100% Crap. |

| well technically... copper is always a reddish orange (excluding sepia and crap) when used in hsfs. but that story is still bull. next time you find something that hot lay your face on it. |

| i think it would work to just lower the fsb bar (nforce2 version) and use cpu-z to monitor how far down your voltage has gone, and use f@h too. |

| i think its the fact that it needs to lower the volts to lower the fsb. |

If you dont change the volts yourself, they will not change at all |

| It is possible for a heat sink to become hot enough so that it is painful to touch. However, that would be about 110 degrees F. So that part is realistic.
As for the glowing, I think it would have to be over 500 degrees F, since that is about what stove burners reach when they glow. That temp would actually melt the plastic casing of the CPU and melt the pins into the socket.

=^.^= | maybe he was talking about the burner elements on his stove =P
they glow red.. they can burn you real bad.. some stoves have buttons on them you can push and maybe he thought he was playing cs? |

| Im just a little confused ,
So what your doing is lowering the voltage on ur chip perminently? and then as u overclock u raise it? or u just leave it?
or is it temporary and then u put it back up after? |

=^.^= | yeah, but at 110F it still isn't hot enough that you would jerk your hand right away, it would take a second or two for it to get unbearably hot.
and if the HSF was 500F, lol, the ambient temperature it would create would be enough to melt some of the components on the mobo around the hsf, certainly the retention frame, and probably cause some oxidation of the silicon.
(lets put aside the fact that it is physically impossible for it to reach that temperature, the processor can't be made to put out enough heat in the first place, no matter how much voltage you pump into it - it would kill it or automatically shut itself off)
well, you could stick your computer in an oven i suppose....but by itself there is no way for it to reach 500F. |

or is it temporary and then u put it back up after? | you bump the voltage down for a week or two, then your cpu will become more effiecent, so it wont need as many volts to reach differnt speeds.
example.
my cpu uses 1.54v stock, max oc was like 209x11.
1.62v could get me up to 228x11
i burned it down to 1.233v.
now 1.54v can get me up to like 236x11.
now 1.62v can get me up to 249x11 |

| oh ic, and this causes major temperature drops at the stock voltage too?
Ive got an MSI board with Core centre, can i just lower the voltage from there (Yes it does let me lower it there),or just go to BIOS instead? |
