| OK, Getting ready to OC the 144, finding the stock benchmarks and whatnot, expect pre-burn-in stats today and post-burn-ins in a week or so...
MD
EDIT -> 2.6GHz on the Opty as of now, I think I can go higher...

Anyways, I was able to up my FSB by 11 by burning in a 5 year old CPU, [kool-aid guy] OHHHHHH YEAHHHHHH [/kool-aid guy]. | I guess it is possible to see it that way. Though that would be like saying if I was talking to someone and someone else came up behind me and started yelling into my ear, that I started that by talking to the aforementioned first someone.
Come to think of it, to avoid anybody yelling at me about possible mistakes I should have just posted this...
After all, I'm not as cute as that paperclip, he can get away with more. |

| Great write-up, but I had 3 questions.
1. Can doing this damage the CPU, motherboard, or RAM?
2. Can you do this to a CPU even after its been used for a period of time (Months of use after purchase)?
3. Can you do this on a laptop? (If so, could it essentially reduce power usage or heat during use?)
Thanks in advance- |

Thanks in advance- | 1. You'll only do damage if you don't know what your doing
2. the longer you wait, the less effective it will be
3. i dunno...can you lower the volts on your laptop? |

| Ok, so I've started and done a first run in Prime95 at stock settings, so now I'm trying to figure out how to set the voltage in the BIOS. There are four things concerning CPU voltages, two of which are "CPU Core Voltage" and "Chip Set Voltage", but I can't touch any of this, it's grayed out. There are some other "Chip Set Voltage Control" and "CPU VID Control" things but they are either already set at auto or don't go lower. You can probably tell I'm not sure what I'm doing.
Ok um I think I figured out what I need to adjust. The CPU VID right? so if the stock voltage settings for my 3800+ X2 is about 1.4v i just go down from that by 0.025v? ok I think I'm getting this now.

| No, you need to work with your CPU core voltage (Vcore).
If it's greyed out, there might be an auto/manual setting somewhere with it.
If it's in the section that shows system status, then you can't change it. |

| So ive got a couple questions:
1) Do you have to do this when your first get your mobo/cpu and everything hooked up? or can you do it later.
2) If no does it benefit you to do it right away? |

| im using this burn is as i type on my other pc. at default my mother boad set the voltage for my opty 170 at 1.4. while overclocking it to 2.8 i left volts at 1.4 and it was stable, but when running dual primes or orthos temps were nearing 55c under both cores full load. so i decidied to give this burn in a try. i set everything back to stock, and starting backing off on the volts to see how low i can run at stock speeds. right now im at 1.2 volts stock 2.0 mhz and when i run dual primes my temps only reach 37c at max. im going to see how low i can get on stock, then im going to see how low i can run when i overclock back to 2.8. hopefully ill be able to get my load temps when im overclocked up around 50 or better. |

| Re: Guide on How to Burn in Your CPU With my new Amd athlon 64 x2 4600+ I got the Vcore from 1.35v down to 1.25v stable at stock speeds and my temps went from 34c idle down to 22-25c idle under load 34-35c that is with the stock HSF
