| Project: Firefighter I Ok, I got my webcam hooked up so I can show you guys some interim pictures. I also got a one-time use camera so I will have some quality scans for a work log once I am finished.
For those that missed my original post: Quote:
In addition to my CD-ROM mod, I am modding an HP Pavilion XE749 case. The comp died and, being me, I can't let anything gather dust. It is going to be a fire service themed case. I have already cut the cover so it has a removable side panel instead of the one-piece deal. I will paint it flat black. Some of the flat areas on the front and the sides will be covered with polished aluminum diamond-plate to contrast the flat black. My modded CD-ROM will be stealthed with the diamond-plate, also. The side window will be a Maltese cross with an 80mm or 120mm quad red led fan w/ fire grill in the center. I'll install red CCFLs inside.
These are my ideas so far. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?
|
Changes to the plan:
1. I am not going to stealth my modded CD-ROM. I'll stealth a CD-R instead. It looks like it will be too difficult to window the top of the case, therefore, there is no sense in installing a windowed CD-ROM.
2. There will be no fan in the side window. I think it will obstruct the view too much.
New ideas:
1. Yellow rounded single device IDE cables. After the red CCFLs and red window tinting, the cables should appear to be more of an orange color.
2. Yellow PSU sleeving. Same reason as above.
3. Yellow PSU changeover kit. Again, same reason.
4. Duckbill chrome switches in an open 3.5" bay to control CCFLs and such.
Supplies acquired:
(1) Duplicolor Acrylic Enamel Primer-white
(2) Duplicolor Acrylic Enamel Topcoat-flat black
(1) Duplicolor Acrylic Enamel Topcoat-crystal clear
(1) Duplicolor Vinyl & Fabric Color-flat black
Just so you know, the webcam really distorts the appearance of my cuts. In actuality, the cuts are precise.
Here is the side panel: |

| Photobucket. Are you not able to see the pic link? This picture thing is screwy, for sure.
And no, Twitch. Plasma torch + Die grinder w/ cutoff wheel + Die Grinder w/ grinding drum + Flat file + Tri-side file + Dry sandpaper + Wet sandpaper = One wickedly sweet edge. |

| someone go out and see the jon trovolta movie? or are you actually a firefighter, btw looks good only thing, you said there wont be a fan on the side because it will obstruct the view, you could still put a fan in the metal and not on the acrilic or plexi, am i right? |

| My older brother is taking my younger brothers and I out tonight to see the movie if he gets back from work early enough. He said it was his birthday gift to me(birthday was yesterday, 16yrs). And yes, I have been a very active cadet for two years now, not to mention all of the stuff I did while I was unofficial. :)
You are correct, I don't want the fan to block the view through the window, but I don't have enough room in the metal around it. No fan :(
Update: It was just a setting in my options that wasn't set right that wasn't letting me see the pictures. Fixed now. How about a cleanup, deadly? |

Possible use a cutout in the plexi and modders mesh painted gold for the lettering...would at least allow an inlet for air even though to can't place an intake fan there directly...just a thought...
Edit: thought also, what about using a smaller size fan in the corners? Rather then the 80mm/120mm, maybe a 60mm could fit, or a 40mm in each bottom corner....ah well, your project, nice cut and nice idea :) |

You have the cross with a circle inset, and on the right/left ends of the cross are a ladder and a hydrant logo, at the top is the word Fire, and at the bottom the word Dept. I think the engine numebr/dept number is typically in the center in a gold/red motif.. |

Please keep in mind that this is a WINDOW. You are supposed to be able to see through it.
