Default 3dmark06 - post scores

Hey, I thought I would start posting topics on here for the various 3dmark products and share some of my better results. It couldn't hurt.

To date, my bst score in 3dmark06 is 18221

This is on a 9800gx2 and a supercharded Q6600, I'm interested if anyone else has a score to share.

I'll start up threads for PCMark05, and 3Dmark03 plus later I might do the Crysis, PT Boats, Cal of Juarez, UT3, and World in Conflict benchmarking suites. That should get us started, if anyone has others, please post them, let's get this benchmarking topic going.

Mine is currently 6905. Im bottlenecked by my graphics card, a Geforce 8600GTS 256MB. Ive tested with an 8800GS and benched 11500. Im waiting on money to get 2 8800GTS's in SLI. As well, Im running an E6850 instead of a quad core. Losing out there as well.

I'm not so sure,
Yes you probably are falling behind with the Graphics card, I had two 8600gt's in sli and could break 10,000 with a core 2 E6750, and under stock settings my 9800 gx2 sets about 14,000 with the quad core. Now with dx10 yes there is a bigger difference, 3dmark vantage utilizes four cores insteed of 2 like in '06. A quad core is nice, but the 6600 is kind of the lower end quad core, the one that really performs for the $$$ is the Q9450, it is just behind the very expensive QX9770, these are at stock speeds of course, but the 9450 does a good job keaping frame rates high.

Your Dual core will be fine for a while, so long as you overclock it, My quad core will be fine for just as long a time. When the Nehalems begin coming out towards the end of the year, we m ight start seeing a drop in price for the Q9450's. Long story Short, wait until next summer before you buy a new chip, the Nehalems are on a new socket and utilize DDR3 so they will be out of reach for a while, but the penryns are still really great chips, and If I could get a quad like the 9450 for say $199, then I will defenantly do that.

Yeah, Dual Core is fine for me for now. I had the choice of getting a Q6600 for the same price as my E6850. I decided Dual Core due to 4 Core being a waste of power at the time. Now we are seeing some games come out that support 4 Cores. Ive been looking at the Q9450 myself, of course I want an extreme, but until someone gives me a winning lottery ticket Ill be holding off on those.

As far as Nehelems go, I just got a Striker II Formula a few months ago. I wasnt happy with the reviews so far on 790i so I decided to go with a 780i chipset. DDR3 had a very minimal impact on system performance vs. DDR2. To me, DDR3 was just too expensive of an upgrade for the little impact it had. Hopefully we will see some better results later on down the road and a price drop to DDR2 prices and higher performance on new chipsets.
